“UK Chief Rabbi Condemns Wave of Attacks on Jewish Community”

Published:

An escalation of attacks on the Jewish community has been highlighted by the UK Chief Rabbi after a recent arson incident at a London synagogue. Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis strongly condemned the cowardly attack at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, where no injuries were reported but minor smoke damage was evident. This incident is part of a series of arson and attempted arson attacks on Jewish sites and properties in the past month, prompting an investigation by counter-terror police.

Expressing concern on social media, Sir Ephraim emphasized the severity of the situation, citing multiple attacks within a short period in London. The ongoing violence has also targeted a Persian language media organization and Jewish community-operated ambulances in North London. The Chief Rabbi warned of a growing campaign of violence and intimidation against the Jewish community in the UK, urging immediate action to address the escalating threat.

Acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as abhorrent and vowed that such actions would not be tolerated. The Metropolitan Police reported the incident occurring around midnight, causing damage to a window at the Kenton United Synagogue. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the attack.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans of the Metropolitan Police disclosed that investigations are underway into the attacks on Jewish and Israeli businesses and sites. She mentioned the group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya claiming responsibility for these attacks, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance against any form of intimidation or harm to communities. Evans highlighted the group’s possible links to Iran, indicating ongoing scrutiny of their activities.

As the investigation continues, a significant police presence remains at the scene for forensic examinations and further inquiries. The authorities are closely monitoring the evolving situation to ensure the safety and security of the affected communities.
