“Tourist Fatally Struck by Statue in Naples Tragedy”

Published:

A tragic incident was caught on CCTV as a tourist lost her life to a statue hurled from a balcony while strolling with her partner in Naples, Italy.

Chiara Jaconis, aged 30, was enjoying her birthday trip in Naples when she was fatally struck by an onyx statue thrown by a 13-year-old from a third-floor balcony. The couple was walking down a serene street in Naples when the tragic incident occurred.

A distressing video captured the moment Chiara was hit and collapsed on the ground, leaving her partner in shock. Shortly after, emergency services were called, and Chiara was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical intervention. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to severe head injuries two days later.

Chiara, an Italian working for Prada in Paris, was tragically struck while walking with her boyfriend in Naples’ Spanish Quarters. The teenager’s parents are facing charges of negligent manslaughter, seeking to vindicate their son over the tragic incident that took place on September 15, 2024.

The teenager responsible for throwing the statue was acquitted by a juvenile court due to being under 14 years old, absolving him of criminal liability under Italian law. Prosecutors argue that closer supervision by the parents could have prevented Chiara’s untimely death.

The parents deny any wrongdoing, claiming no ownership of the statue and no involvement in the tragic event. They have contested the court’s decision based on their son’s age, advocating for his acquittal based on the case’s merits rather than his youth.

The incident has sparked public debate on parental responsibility in densely populated areas in Italy, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 26.
