“Ottawa Redblacks Break CFL Losing Streak Record”

Published:

The Ottawa Redblacks have set a new record in the CFL, marking the longest losing streak in the modern era. After a 33-21 defeat against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night, the Redblacks have now lost 15 consecutive games, a streak that dates back to the previous season’s end. This surpasses the 14-game losing streak by the Shreveport Pirates in 1994, as confirmed by Steve Daniel, a CFL historian and the league’s associate vice-president of football analytics and statistics.

The disappointing distinction of holding the modern-day record was acknowledged by Daniel, who highlighted the team’s struggles. Fans, like Jimmy Fata, expressed their disappointment but remained supportive, emphasizing the importance of standing by the team through thick and thin.

In addition to the current record, the Redblacks’ losing streak now ranks as the third-longest in CFL history, dating back to 1907. Another loss in the upcoming game against the Montreal Alouettes would tie them with the Hamilton Wildcats for the second-longest streak. However, the all-time record of 25 consecutive losses is held by the Ottawa CFL clubs from 1928 to 1932.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Daniel suggested a continued focus on roster rebuilding, particularly on defense. Despite recent changes and improvements, the Redblacks face challenges, notably in their red zone performance, where they have struggled to convert opportunities into points.

Amid the historic losing streak, loyal fans like Fata remain steadfast in their support, emphasizing the importance of standing by the team through adversity. Despite the tough times, he remains optimistic about the team’s future and continues to show unwavering support as a dedicated football fan.
