England’s cricket team will have a curfew in place for the upcoming T20 World Cup following recent incidents in New Zealand and Australia. The team faced disappointing defeats in both countries, with off-the-field alcohol-related issues drawing unwanted attention.
During the last two tours, England suffered losses in New Zealand and a thrashing in the Ashes series. Concerns were raised about the team’s conduct, particularly during a drinking incident in Noosa and an altercation involving Test vice-captain Harry Brook in New Zealand.
To address these issues, the England and Wales Cricket Board has implemented a curfew for the players. They are required to return to the team hotel before midnight and will be reminded of their responsibilities to maintain a positive public image. The team is set to play matches against Sri Lanka before participating in the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Brook, who will lead the team in the T20 World Cup, expressed remorse for his actions and emphasized the importance of representing England with professionalism. The ECB is under scrutiny following the Ashes, with concerns raised about the team’s drinking culture.
The ECB’s director of cricket, Rob Key, defended the players’ need for downtime but emphasized that excessive drinking is unacceptable. The board has initiated a review to address tour planning, individual behavior, and the team’s ability to adapt to challenges effectively.
