The England cricket luminary shared a photograph on Instagram revealing his heavily bruised eye, facial scratches, and a bandaged nose, humorously remarking, “You should see the state of the cricket ball.”
The cause of Stokes’ injuries came to light as he was coaching young players at Durham’s indoor facility. During a session, batsman Robbie Bowman inadvertently struck a ball towards Stokes, leading to the accident that prompted Stokes to be hospitalized.
Durham coach Ryan Campbell disclosed that Stokes acknowledged breaking a fundamental coaching rule by turning his back on the batter, resulting in the unfortunate incident. Despite the mishap, Stokes personally reassured Bowman, demonstrating his character and sportsmanship.
In addition to his recent facial injuries, Stokes has been recuperating from a groin injury sustained during the Ashes Test. However, he is poised to return to action for Durham ahead of England’s upcoming Test against Australia in June. Stokes has shown promising form during practice sessions, indicating his readiness to play county championship matches before the Test match.
