In their official communication, the Governments of Ogun and Lagos States verified that Anthony Joshua, a British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, was in a road traffic collision on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The accident involved a vehicle carrying a team of four that collided with a stationary truck, leading to the fatalities. The governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for strength for them during this challenging time.
Following the crash, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were promptly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments confirmed their stable condition without the need for emergency interventions at present. A dedicated medical team is closely monitoring their progress, with Joshua being conscious and in contact with his family.
The authorities of Ogun and Lagos States emphasized their commitment to providing the best medical care to those affected by the accident. Additionally, investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident have commenced to determine the cause.

The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria reported that the crash involved a black Lexus Jeep and a parked red commercial Sinotruck, resulting in two fatalities, one injury, and two individuals escaping unharmed. Anthony Joshua, who sustained minor injuries, was rescued alive from the scene.
Initial findings suggest that the speed of the Lexus Jeep may have exceeded the legal limit, causing it to lose control during an overtaking maneuver and collide with the stationary truck. The injured individual received medical attention, while the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu, with the police notified for further investigation and documentation.
