CBC has secured an expanded presence in Canadian curling through a new five-year broadcast agreement that will increase coverage of the Grand Slam of Curling playoffs and all Rock League games on its platforms. The deal with The Curling Group, revealed on Thursday, will result in over 300 hours of combined television broadcasts on CBC and Sportsnet during the 2026-27 season.
A significant enhancement for CBC is its involvement with Rock League. The professional league, which debuted in April, will return to CBC in January 2027. Every match will be accessible on CBC television and CBC Gem, with selected games also airing on Radio-Canada’s ICI TOU.TV and Sportsnet on Thursdays and Fridays. Rock League comprises six mixed-gender teams featuring curlers from various countries. The upcoming season will feature competitions on specific weekends in January and April, with matches scheduled from Thursday to Sunday.
Furthermore, CBC will play a more prominent role in the Grand Slam of Curling. Sportsnet remains the primary broadcaster for all five Grand Slam events, commencing in October. It will showcase three draws daily from Tuesday to Friday. On Saturdays, CBC and CBC Gem will join Sportsnet+ for the playoff coverage, while Sportsnet will broadcast the championship finals on Sundays, with CBC also airing select finals throughout the season. The morning round-robin draws and tiebreakers from Tuesday to Saturday will continue to be streamed on Rock Channel.
The new agreement underscores CBC’s extensive curling legacy, expanding its presence in major Canadian curling events. Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of sports and Olympics, expressed enthusiasm for sharing another season of Rock League with audiences nationwide. The agreements with The Curling Group will broaden the national audience for both the Grand Slam and Rock League. Nic Sulsky, CEO and co-founder of The Curling Group, described this as a pivotal moment for the sport. Over the next five years, Canadian viewers can look forward to more opportunities to follow both the Grand Slam playoff weekends and the second season of Rock League on CBC.
