Carley Fortune Announces New Romance Novel “Only in Summer”

Published:

Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to debut on May 18, 2027. This new novel revisits Barry’s Bay, Ont., the familiar backdrop of her previous works “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and the town she grew up in. Fortune shared in a newsletter that she fulfilled her dream of owning a cottage near Barry’s Bay just before starting this project.

In “Only in Summer,” the protagonist Eleanor Florek, also known as Ellie, echoes Fortune’s dream of owning a property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, a cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier novels set in Barry’s Bay, is surprised to find out that a neighboring house is being torn down to make way for a lavish mansion, owned by a charming newcomer.

While details about the storyline are scarce, it’s likely that a hesitant romance will blossom in the picturesque lakeside locale. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto with a background in editing for various publications, has penned successful books such as “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”

“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, supported by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to grace the show. “Every Summer After” inspired the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a forthcoming 10-episode series.
