“Popular Kids’ Channels to Disappear from TV Guides in December 2025”

Published:

The standard TV guide will soon have fewer options for entertainment seekers relying on Sky, Freeview, or Virgin Media. Popular children’s channels, Pop and Tiny Pop, are set to be removed from broadcasting starting December 2025. Currently showcasing beloved shows like Pokémon, LEGO Friends, and Hello Kitty, these channels cater to younger audiences around the clock.

The decision to pull the plug on these channels is driven by commercial viability concerns, as outlined by Paul Dunthorne, MD of Narrative. With a significant decline in commercial value in the UK kids’ TV market over the past decade, sustaining free-to-air children’s channels without public service broadcaster-style funding has become increasingly challenging.

Despite the impending closure of these channels, the content will still be accessible through online-only services on FAST platforms, requiring an internet-enabled television for viewing. The closure will also extend to the Pop Player app and website.

In contrast, Sky is introducing Disney Jr. to enhance its kids’ TV offerings, featuring a lineup tailored for children aged 2-6. This addition, scheduled to launch on November 13 as part of the Sky Kids package, includes popular shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and Bluey.

Disney Jr. will be accessible through the Sky Kids pack via the TV guide or on-demand on various Sky devices and the Sky Go app. Additionally, Disney Jr. content will remain available for streaming on Disney+.
