Young Woman Discovers Cancer Despite Doctors’ Misdiagnosis

Published:

A young woman, Sumbul Ari, discovered she had cancer at the age of 26 after medical professionals dismissed her severe skin itching as a simple case of dryness. Sumbul, facing relentless symptoms for nearly a year, took matters into her own hands after feeling like she was “itching herself to death.”

Despite her distressing experience, doctors attributed her extreme itchiness to dry skin and recommended moisturizing. Feeling certain that something more serious was at play, Sumbul turned to online research, where she was alarmed to find a correlation between her symptoms and a type of cancer, later confirmed by medical professionals.

Sumbul described her ordeal of uncontrollable itching, sleepless nights, and unsuccessful treatments, including medication and creams. Alongside the itching, she also suffered from night sweats, fatigue, and a diminished appetite. Her persistent itching mystery was finally solved when she noticed a lump on her neck, leading her to suspect cancer.

After consulting with a doctor and undergoing tests, Sumbul’s fears were confirmed on March 17 when she received a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The medical scans revealed enlarged lymph nodes in her neck and chest, as well as her spleen. She has already completed one round of chemotherapy and is scheduled for five more.

Expressing relief at being heard and finally on the path to recovery, Sumbul emphasized the importance of self-advocacy for anyone facing health concerns.
