The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has revealed that the deal encompasses an increase of over 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with a new “duty period premium” that provides additional compensation for ground duties. Additionally, the agreement includes extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and various other benefits.
Amid a long weekend for many, all WestJet flights across a significant portion of Canada were halted as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, commencing their walkout early on Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the air carrier and the union in the early hours of Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of normal WestJet operations.
Cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
