While it’s common knowledge that positioning the router centrally, rebooting it monthly, and avoiding signal obstructions like fish tanks can enhance performance, many overlook the impact of weather changes on connectivity.
With rising temperatures in late spring and summer, routers face increased strain, necessitating placement in cool, well-ventilated areas.
Virgin Media explained in a recent blog post how warmer weather can stress broadband equipment, stating, “High temperatures, especially during heatwaves, can challenge the efficiency of indoor routers due to inadequate airflow caused by placement behind TVs, in cupboards, near radiators, or in direct sunlight.”
To prevent speed issues or disconnections, ensure the router is in a cooler location during warmer weather. While hot temperatures affect performance, other weather conditions are less likely to disrupt internet activities.
Virgin Media emphasized that many weather-related broadband problems originate indoors, highlighting factors like wall thickness, excessive devices, and poor router placement as significant connectivity influencers.
For optimal Wi-Fi performance, position the router centrally away from direct sunlight, avoiding metal objects or furniture obstruction. After severe weather, ensure cables are secure, and limit device connections to reduce interference.
