A man from Florida accused of killing a woman he met on a fetish website is set to face a trial later this year. Dwain Hall, 54, has pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping involving Brit Sonia Exelby, 32, who had traveled from Portsmouth, UK, to the US in October. Police reports revealed that Sonia had come to Florida with the potential intent of being subjected to sexual abuse, torture, and murder.
Following an autopsy that showed Sonia had been stabbed four times, her body was discovered in a shallow grave. Initially denying any connection to Sonia, Hall later admitted to authorities that they had engaged in sexual activity. During a recent court appearance, a judge scheduled the trial proceedings to commence on November 16 with the selection of a jury.
The trial is scheduled to take place in Marion County, Florida, and is anticipated to last approximately one week. Sonia’s body was found in a wooded area after she failed to board her return flight to London on October 13. Concerns were raised by her family and friends, mentioning Sonia’s mental health struggles and vulnerability after communicating with a man on the fetish website.
Conversations between Sonia and the man allegedly escalated from discussions of bondage and suicide to Sonia expressing a desire to be killed. It was suggested that if forced to assist in her death, Hall would have taken her to an area known as Alligator Alley, where wildlife could have disposed of her. Hall’s response to questions about Sonia’s death indicated a disturbing outlook, implying she had achieved her desired outcome.
Messages exchanged by Sonia with a friend on Discord on October 11, shortly after her arrival in the US, revealed her distressing situation. She mentioned being controlled by the man she was with and feeling trapped without a viable escape plan.
