“Study Reveals £364 Gap in Home Insurance Costs by Job Title”

Published:

A recent study by comparison platform Go Compare has highlighted a significant difference of £364 between the lowest and highest-priced job titles in terms of home insurance premiums. The analysis revealed that occupation plays a crucial role in determining insurance costs, with professions like investment managers, financial services, senior management, and legal sector roles attracting the highest premiums.

For instance, an annual premium for a warehouse packer averaged at £155, while an investment manager faced a much higher cost of £519. Similarly, investment bankers, barristers, surgeons, and finance directors also paid substantial amounts ranging from £404 to £519 annually. On the contrary, jobs like warehouse packers, shelf fillers, and car delivery drivers incurred lower premiums in the range of £155 to £180.

Interestingly, disparities in premiums were also observed within the same job category. For example, an account director paid an average premium of £338, whereas an account manager and account executive paid £269 and £292, respectively. Despite these variations, it is emphasized that honesty is crucial when providing occupation details in insurance applications to avoid potential fraud consequences.

Statistics from Go Compare revealed alarming figures, with nearly a quarter of Britons admitting to deliberately providing false information on financial applications, including misrepresenting their job titles. Tamzin Metcalfe, a home insurance specialist at Go Compare, warned against misrepresentation, emphasizing the risks involved such as policy cancellation, claim denials, and negative impacts on future insurance coverage opportunities.

Metcalfe advised individuals to ensure accuracy in their job descriptions on insurance applications, considering any changes in circumstances like promotions or career shifts. Additionally, factors such as location, property type, claims history, and contents value also influence home insurance prices. It is recommended to review and compare insurance policies using online tools for potential cost savings, especially when nearing policy renewal dates.
