Melania Trump expressed her genuine feelings about King Charles and Queen Camilla’s official visit with a concise three-word remark. The royal couple arrived in Washington DC on Monday as part of their three-day trip to the United States.
Upon their arrival, they were warmly greeted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump outside the iconic South Portico of the White House. The visit proceeded despite a shooting incident in Washington DC on Saturday night, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.
Following an incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Cole Allen, 31, faced charges related to attempting to harm the president and firearm offenses. The King reportedly felt relieved that Trump was unharmed, leading the Palace to confirm the state visit would continue with some minor schedule adjustments.
During their meeting outside the White House, Melania Trump exchanged pleasantries with King Charles, expressing her delight about the state visit with a simple three-word statement. The two couples then posed for photographs before heading inside the White House for tea.
As reported by the Mirror, Trump, in a friendly gesture, tapped the King on the shoulder as they entered, breaking royal protocol but possibly indicating a sign of affection. The King seemed unfazed by the breach in tradition, and experts noted the subdued nature of Trump’s gesture compared to past encounters.
Later today, the King will address the US Congress, following in the footsteps of his mother’s historic speech more than three decades ago. Subsequently, both the King and Trump will deliver speeches at a dinner, with the King scheduled to visit the 9/11 memorial the next day.
The royal couple will bid farewell to the Trumps on Thursday before heading to Bermuda, where the King holds a significant position.
