Lebanese Family’s Journey through Conflict and Uncertainty

Published:

A Lebanese family faced the threat of Israeli airstrikes as they journeyed to their new residence after being displaced due to the conflict with Iran. Samia, 24, had to leave her family’s home recently, along with 17 relatives, as their village was marked for potential bombing.

Despite a ceasefire between Israel and Iran-supported Hezbollah, Samia expressed ongoing anxiety, mentioning the omnipresent drones and the constant fear of the ceasefire collapsing. The toll of the conflict has been severe, with Lebanon reporting about 2,300 deaths compared to 23 in Israel. In a recent devastating attack, Israel bombed over 100 targets in Lebanon within 10 minutes, resulting in more than 300 casualties, marking a tragic event reminiscent of the country’s civil war over three decades ago.

Lebanon’s Prime Minister accused Israel of targeting civilians in densely populated areas, disputing Israel’s claims of aiming at Hezbollah fighters. The family, previously displaced in 2024, evacuated their village again in 2026 due to the imminent threat, enduring a perilous journey to a temporary residence in the mountains.

The challenging conditions persisted in their new cramped living space, sparking mental distress. Samia highlighted the emotional strain of living in unfamiliar surroundings devoid of basic necessities. Despite the ceasefire announcement, the family remains wary of the fragile peace, with drones still causing unease and a lack of true security.

Samia’s volunteer work during the conflict underscored the dire situation faced by many, with basic rights like clean water and shelter becoming distant dreams. The family has since returned home but remains apprehensive about the uncertain future, with the specter of conflict lingering despite the temporary calm.
