“Iconic Actor Tim Curry, Known for ‘Rocky Horror,’ Dies at 80”

Tim Curry, the unique British actor celebrated for his portrayal of eccentric characters such as the flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” has passed away at the age of 80.

According to his longtime manager and friend, Marcia Hurwitz, Curry died at his Los Angeles residence on Tuesday night, although the initial report indicated his passing on Wednesday. The cause of death has not been disclosed yet. Following a stroke in 2012, Curry had been using a wheelchair.

Curry rose to fame in the 1970s as the lead in the horror-comedy stage musical “The Rocky Horror Show” and continued his success in the 1975 film adaptation “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

He gained recognition for his portrayal of sinister and eccentric villains, such as Pennywise the clown in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” and Rooster Hannigan in the 1982 movie “Annie.”

Aside from his iconic roles, Curry was also cherished for his voice work in various animated children’s productions like “The Rugrats Movie” (1998) and “The Wild Thornberrys Movie” (2002).

His theatrical performances earned him three Tony nominations and an Emmy nod for his appearance in the horror series “Tales from the Crypt” in 1994.

In a statement released by Curry’s PR manager, Sean Katz, it was highlighted that Curry’s talent lied in his versatility across different genres. Katz described Curry as a dynamic individual, capable of seamlessly transitioning between comedy, horror, drama, and music throughout his illustrious career.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and admirers following Curry’s passing. Carol Burnett, his co-star in “Annie,” paid homage to him on Instagram, praising his talent and friendship. Comedian Rob Schneider also expressed his sorrow over Curry’s death, lauding his exceptional acting skills.

The official Instagram page for “The Rocky Horror Show” acknowledged Curry’s legacy and impact, crediting him for bringing the iconic character of Dr. Frank-N-Furter to life.
