Former England and Liverpool footballer, Stephen Warnock, assisted in the capture of a man who had been peeping into the homes of two women for weeks. The 44-year-old, now a pundit, decided to take action after the man was repeatedly caught on camera approaching the women’s front door. Warnock, from Lancashire, surveilled the area with his fiancée, who is the sister of one of the victims, and waited for the man to appear at the expected times.
When the peeper realized he was being watched, he fled, prompting Warnock to pursue him for about 40 minutes until the police, alerted by a 999 call, were able to apprehend him.
The Liverpool Echo reported that the man, Andrew Mulhearn, 30, residing on the same street as the victims, was given a 12-week suspended prison sentence for harassing the women without violence over several weeks the previous summer.
Warnock explained his involvement, emphasizing his concern as a father of two daughters, stating that it was unfair for young girls to feel scared in their own homes. He highlighted the lack of resources for the police to address such cases, leading him to assist in identifying the perpetrator.
Mulhearn’s unsettling behavior began when his victims noticed him repeatedly showing up at their home via their doorbell camera, initially mistaking him for a potential burglar. Despite being advised by the police to contact emergency services if the man returned, Warnock felt compelled to monitor the situation personally due to the lack of information about the perpetrator.
After a comical stakeout outside the victims’ house, Warnock spotted Mulhearn and began to tail him, eventually enlisting the help of another individual connected to the victims. The situation culminated in the man’s arrest by the police following a call from Warnock’s fiancée.
Mulhearn, despite his initial denial, eventually confessed in court and received a sentence that included a restraining order, community service, and rehabilitation days. Warnock’s involvement shed light on the impact of harassment cases and the need to address such behavior to protect the victims.
Warnock’s bravery and dedication to ensuring the safety of the women involved in the case demonstrate the importance of standing up against such predatory actions.
