Anthony Joshua Back in Training After Tragic Accident

Published:

British boxer Anthony Joshua has resumed training at the gym nearly three weeks after being in a serious car accident in Nigeria. The incident, which occurred on a major expressway near Lagos, resulted in the tragic deaths of two of Joshua’s close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Their funerals were held in London on January 4.

Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight world champion, was a passenger in a Lexus SUV involved in the collision. Despite sustaining minor injuries, he was deeply affected by the loss of his friends. Following the accident, there were speculations about Joshua’s future in boxing, with some questioning whether he would step back into the ring.

Recently, Joshua shared photos on social media showing him back in training, describing it as a form of “mental strength therapy.” The images depicted him working out, doing lower leg exercises, and even engaging in pool exercises. Additionally, there were posts showcasing his determination, including a picture indicating his time on cardio machines and a throwback photo from a past fight against Wladimir Klitschko.

While there were reports suggesting Joshua’s retirement plans after the crash, his uncle revealed that no final decision had been made. The boxer’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, emphasized the need for Joshua to have space and time to heal before contemplating his boxing future. Hearn stressed that any decision regarding Joshua’s return to the sport would ultimately come from Joshua himself.

Despite the challenges Joshua has faced, there is a belief that he may eventually return to boxing, but for now, the focus is on his recovery and well-being. The boxing community continues to offer support and prayers for Joshua during this difficult time.
