A young boy, Teddy Hemms, aged five, went for an eye check-up at Specsavers due to experiencing “fuzzy eyes” shortly after starting school. To everyone’s surprise, the eye test revealed inflammation in the nerves at the back of his eye, indicating a serious underlying issue. Further investigations discovered that Teddy was suffering from a grade four medulloblastoma, an aggressive type of brain cancer, with multiple growths on the lining of his brain and spine.
Following the diagnosis, Teddy underwent intensive treatments including radiation, chemotherapy, and major surgeries. Despite the challenging journey, Teddy’s family remained hopeful and opted for a new, more aggressive chemotherapy regimen to combat the cancer, even though it comes with potential side effects such as hearing loss.
Teddy’s parents, Cindy and Ian Hemms, expressed their shock and helplessness upon learning about their son’s condition. The family’s life took a drastic turn as Teddy underwent various treatments, surgeries, and rehabilitation to fight the cancer that had already spread beyond his brain.
Despite the hardships, Teddy showed resilience and progress, taking his first steps again after a difficult recovery from surgery. His family, along with the community, rallied behind him, raising funds to support his ongoing treatment and care.
