A shooting incident at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge has resulted in two individuals suffering critical injuries and several others sustaining various degrees of harm. The Baton Rouge Police Department reported that ten people were affected during the incident, prompting immediate police response and lockdown measures at the shopping center. Some of the injured individuals are currently undergoing surgical procedures.
The shooting, which occurred near the mall’s food court around 1:25 pm local time, is suspected to have stemmed from a dispute between two groups, leading to a triage setup outside a JCPenney store for medical assistance. Emergency responders have restricted access to the mall to ensure swift assistance.
Chief TJ Morse assured the public that there is no ongoing danger, clarifying that the shooting was a result of an escalating argument between the involved groups. Mayor-president Sid Edwards confirmed his presence at the scene, where a command post has been established. He expressed concern for the victims and their families, urging prayers for their well-being.
Our Lady of the Lake Hospital issued a statement advising against visiting the facility at the moment, emphasizing the need for family members to gather at the main entrance for updates and support. Governor Jeff Landry urged people to avoid the area of the shooting and expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s rapid response.
Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed the discharge of one or more weapons in the food court area of the mall and underscored the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in managing the situation.
