As the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, a flurry of well-wishes is set to flood messaging apps as people across the globe usher in 2026. WhatsApp, a popular chat platform, has noted that December 31 consistently ranks as its busiest night of the year.
“New Year’s is our peak day at WhatsApp, setting new records each year for messaging and calls among friends and family,” WhatsApp shared.
On an average day, WhatsApp handles over 100 billion messages and 2 billion calls, but the transition to a new year always surpasses these numbers.
To enhance the festive messaging experience, WhatsApp has rolled out new features just in time for the celebrations. The update includes a 2026 sticker pack, video call effects like fireworks and confetti animations, animated confetti reactions, and animated stickers for Status updates.
In addition to these upgrades, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is offering advice for users on how to streamline their New Year’s Eve plans within group chats.
Some top tips from WhatsApp include creating an event and pinning it to the chat, using polls to decide on food and activities, sharing live locations, and sending video and voice notes to capture memorable moments for absent friends.
By following these tips and making use of the latest features, WhatsApp users can make the most of their New Year’s Eve celebrations.
