Trump reversed course on the Iran conflict overnight, agreeing to a ceasefire that extends his self-imposed doomsday deadline. He mentioned Iran’s “10-point plan,” which appears to be the same proposal previously dismissed by him as inadequate.
Although Iran agreed to grant access to the Strait of Hormuz, they stipulated that it would be under their supervision, granting them significant control over this crucial aspect of the global economy.
The day unfolded dramatically, with Trump issuing a warning to Iran on Truth Social just hours before the deadline. The post sparked outcry, leading to calls for his removal under the 25th Amendment. Concurrently, US forces targeted Kharg Island in Iran.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister urged Trump to agree to a two-week ceasefire for peace talks to progress and for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz during this period. Trump eventually accepted the ceasefire request and referenced Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
Israel also pledged to adhere to the ceasefire following Trump’s decision. Iran’s foreign minister declared victory, stating that the US had accepted the framework of their 10-point proposal.
Trump celebrated the ceasefire he initiated, highlighting the economic opportunities in rebuilding Iran. He expressed optimism for peace in the Middle East and emphasized the potential for significant progress and cooperation in the region.
