A man from the UK sustained serious injuries, including a broken neck and back, in a motorcycle accident while on vacation overseas. Andrew Patterson, 29, a tree surgeon originally from Omagh, Northern Ireland, but living in Melbourne, Australia, since 2024, was in Canggu, Bali, on a weekend trip with a friend. While riding separate rented motorcycles on a Sunday evening, Andrew crashed after misjudging a turn, catapulting him over his bike’s handlebars into a road sign.
His injuries included severe facial cuts, a shattered cheek and eye socket, a broken nose, lacerations on his left hand requiring skin grafts, and fractures in his neck and middle back. His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for his medical treatment and possible repatriation to the UK. Andrew’s sister, Andrea Marsella, shared that he underwent reconstructive surgery and skin grafts due to the significant head and facial trauma sustained in the accident.
Despite not needing surgery on his neck and back, Andrew faces a long recovery journey. His family is grateful for his survival and the support received, acknowledging the mounting costs of emergency care, surgeries, and potential transportation back home.
