Sky Shifts Away from Sky Q, Promotes Sky Stream and Sky Glass

Published:

Sky has announced a significant change in TV viewing habits, potentially marking the decline of traditional satellite dishes. The company has stopped selling its Sky Q set-top box online and is now promoting Sky Stream and Sky Glass TVs instead.

In a statement, Sky stated, “We’ve unplugged Sky Q. Plug in Sky Stream for less. Sky Q is no longer available to buy online.” Customers looking to purchase Sky Q will now be encouraged to opt for the more affordable Stream box, starting at £15 per month.

The shift to Sky Stream and Sky Glass means accessing live and on-demand content via internet connection rather than satellite signals. These options offer quick setup, eliminate the need for installation visits, and receive frequent updates and feature enhancements. Moreover, the basic Sky Stream package is more budget-friendly compared to Sky Q.

The move away from Sky Q is not unexpected, as the company has observed a preference among new customers for streaming-based services. Existing Sky Q users need not worry as the change only affects online orders, and the device can still be obtained by contacting Sky directly or visiting retail stores.

Sky clarified, “Sky Q is no longer available online, but customers can order by phone or in retail stores. Alternatively, they can choose Sky Glass or Sky Stream, favored by 9 out of 10 new customers.” While Sky Q remains in use for many households, the trend towards a streaming-centric future is evident.
