A tragic incident occurred over the weekend resulting in the death of a six-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle. The incident took place on Anchor Drive in Ellesmere Port on Sunday, April 19, around 11.40am, involving a black Infiniti FX30D.
The boy was rushed to the hospital accompanied by family members, where he was met by law enforcement and medical personnel near Whitby Sports and Social Club before being transferred to the Countess of Chester Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while in the hospital.
Specialist officers are providing support to the boy’s next of kin who have been informed of the tragic event. Following the incident, a 48-year-old local man was apprehended on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without proper authorization. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe, from the Cheshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need to determine the exact sequence of events. The authorities are urging witnesses to the collision on Anchor Drive and anyone with relevant video footage to come forward. Additionally, individuals who were present during the child’s treatment near Whitby Sports and Social Club are asked to provide any information they may have.
