Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, which links Windsor and Detroit, finally opened for traffic on July 27 after facing delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of operation. Additionally, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the same bridge during this period.

In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, other key border crossings in the region, witnessed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents over the same timeframe.

Commercial transport activity was also notable, with 4,100 trucks journeying into Canada over the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
