“Deadliest Mass Shooting in US in 2 Years: 8 Children Killed”

Published:

Neighbors witnessed Shamar Elkins fleeing his residence after allegedly committing a heinous crime, killing eight children aged one to 12 in Louisiana. The tragic incident, described as the deadliest mass shooting in the US in over two years, involved the gunman targeting two houses, resulting in the deaths of seven of his children and injuring their mother, along with another child.

According to the Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon, the suspect first shot the mother and then proceeded to kill the eight children, leaving a total of 10 individuals shot, with two women surviving, one of whom sustained critical injuries, including a gunshot to the head. The horrifying events transpired on a Sunday morning at a residence in Shreveport, where the massacre unfolded.

After the shootings, Elkins drove to Harrison Street, pursued by the police in a high-speed chase following a carjacking. The pursuit ended when Elkins arrived at a third location and was fatally shot by law enforcement officers. Witnesses, like Liza Demming, observed the suspect fleeing the scene, with her security camera capturing footage of him running away from the house after hearing gunshots.

Demming, who lives nearby, recounted seeing a child’s covered body on a neighboring roof, expressing shock at the tragedy and mentioning that she was familiar with the suspect as a father figure who had interacted with the children recently. Pastor Marty T. Johnson Sr., who owns one of the houses where the shootings occurred, revealed that the family involved had rented the property from one of his employees, expressing condolences and offering support to the grieving family.

Louisiana State Police have launched an investigation at the request of the Shreveport police department. State authorities are urging anyone with relevant information, photos, or videos to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and US House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed their sorrow over the heartbreaking incident and commended the swift response of law enforcement.

Acknowledging the incident as a domestic matter, detectives emphasized that the shooting was primarily a result of internal family dynamics. Efforts are being made to support the victims, their families, and the community during this distressing period.
