Published:

In Louisiana, a tragic mass shooting resulted in the death of one child found on a roof while trying to escape. The incident, allegedly carried out by 31-year-old army veteran Shamar Elkins, occurred early in the morning across three locations in Shreveport. The victims, aged between 1 and 12, were identified by police during a press conference that shocked attendees.

Corporal Chris Bordelon of the Shreveport Police Department revealed that the crime scene spanned multiple properties in the Cedar Grove area. Elkins, after the attack, attempted a carjacking and was pursued by officers before being fatally shot by law enforcement. Additionally, it was disclosed that seven children were found deceased inside one house, with another child discovered on the roof, possibly attempting to flee, though their identity remains unknown.

State Representative Tammy Phelps mentioned that some children tried to escape through the back door, emphasizing the challenging situation faced by first responders. Two women sustained critical injuries in the incident, as confirmed by officials.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and US House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed sorrow over the tragedy and commended the swift action of law enforcement. They extended their thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families, and the Shreveport community during this difficult time.

Authorities indicated that the motive behind the violence was yet to be determined, but they believed it stemmed from a domestic situation. This incident marked the deadliest mass shooting in the US since January 2024, underscoring the severity of the tragedy.
