Those who keep up with the activities of Canadian music icon, actor, author, and all-around delightful individual Jann Arden on social platforms would likely recognize the dirt road as much as they observed the happy couple posing on it.
Dubbed “Jann’s road” by Arden, this secluded rural path near her property in Springbank, Alta., west of Calgary, holds significance beyond being a mere location. It serves as a backdrop for her video walks, updates, and photos of her cherished dogs at different life stages. It’s where Arden shared her experiences of caring for her aging parents with both heartache and humor, and where she mourned their passing.
Jann’s road also symbolizes joy, as evidenced by the recent smiling photos Arden posted with her partner and now wife, Icelandic author and advocate for digital rights and gender equality, Thordis Elva.
Hence, it was apt that Arden revealed her marriage to Elva over the weekend with a photo of the couple in white attire on none other than Jann’s road. “Wife and wife,” Arden joyfully shared on Instagram Sunday, announcing their wedding date as Aug. 15, 2026.
TV host Jessica Allen commented, “This must be the most joyous #Jannsroad yet!” while TV and radio host Meredith Shaw remarked, “#Jannsroad has never looked better!”
In a statement to CBC News, Arden expressed that she and Elva had a “beautiful, kickass gathering with dear friends and family,” describing the event as magical and surreal.
Arden, renowned for hits like “Insensitive,” “Good Mother,” and “Could I Be Your Girl,” disclosed her engagement to Elva on Dec. 31, 2025. The couple first met at a writers’ retreat in Iceland, where former Icelandic first lady Eliza Reid unintentionally played matchmaker.
Reid, a guest at the wedding, humorously shared on Instagram her role in bringing the couple together and attending their wedding. Numerous Canadian celebrities and media personalities, including Chelsea Handler, were also present at the ceremony.
The couple, who discussed their wedding plans on an episode of Arden’s podcast, emphasized the normalization of same-sex love and the importance of societal inclusivity. They are planning a honeymoon in Edinburgh following their nuptials.
Thordis Elva, celebrated as Iceland’s Woman of the Year in 2015 for her gender equality work, and Person of the Year in 2017 for her involvement in the #MeToo movement, is also a playwright and co-author of the non-fiction book “South of Forgiveness.”
