A prominent bullfighter in Spain suffered a severe injury when a bull’s horn pierced his rectum, causing a 10cm wound. José Antonio Morante Camacho, known as Morante de la Puebla, was gored by the bull named ‘Clandestino’ during a bullfight at La Maestranza bullring in Seville. The incident occurred during the tenth event of the April Fair.
Video footage of the incident shows the bull striking Morante in the buttocks, leading to a tear in his trousers. Morante was visibly distressed and had to be carried out of the ring by fellow bullfighters. Prior to this injury, he had already suffered a minor incident where a bull caught his ear.
Following a two-hour operation, medical reports revealed the severity of Morante’s injuries, describing a 10cm wound in his rectum that partially damaged the anal sphincter muscles and perforated the posterior wall. Doctors performed a specialized surgical procedure at the Maestranza bullring’s infirmary.
The unfortunate incident has raised concerns about Morante’s well-being and has overshadowed the event. His decision to remove his traditional bullfighter’s coleta before the festival had generated anticipation among fans. Despite the setback, Morante had made a comeback at the April Fair and Corpus Christi festival, where he was expected to perform to a sold-out audience of 12,000 spectators.
