In the lead-up to Christmas in London, Apple’s iPad has brought a special treat to onlookers. The renowned tablet was utilized to craft 24 festive designs that are now illuminating the iconic towers at Battersea Power Station, a location Apple also calls its UK home.
These vibrant artworks were carefully selected from numerous entries submitted by the public in Apple’s “Your Tree on Battersea” competition. As night falls, these images will adorn two of the towering 101-meter chimneys that overlook the River Thames.
One of the competition winners, Varsha Simha from Canterbury, expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m thrilled to have been chosen in this contest. My inspiration came from the cozy sweaters, stockings, and warm items at the Christmas market during the coldest months.”
Another winner, 7-year-old Miah D.B, shared, “I am delighted to be selected. I created this tree on my iPad because I enjoy drawing on it, and my inspiration stemmed from emotions.”
Notable personalities like Kylie Minogue, Sir Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, David Shrigley OBE, and Chawawa have also contributed their drawings to accompany the winners’ creations.
This competition continues Apple’s tradition of celebrating holiday creativity and marks the first time the company has opened such an opportunity to the public.
In previous years, artist David Hockney presented “Bigger Christmas Trees on iPad Pro” in 2023, while Aardman, the creator of Wallace & Gromit, used the iPhone 16 Pro Max for a short animation last year.
Chawawa, reflecting on the event, mentioned, “Hosting Apple’s inaugural iPad Christmas tree competition holds special significance for me. As a child, I spent weekends at the store, filling up an iPad with photos of my forehead. Now leading Your Tree on Battersea is truly special. It is heartening to see the nation coming together to create Christmas trees on iPad and showcase them in the greatest city in the world.”
These captivating images will brighten up Battersea from now until Christmas Eve.
