Millions of Gmail users will soon have the option to change their email address to a new one. Google had previously suggested that this feature was in the works, and now it seems to be rolling out globally. In an update on the Gmail blog page, Google has officially announced that users can switch their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a new address with the same ending.
This update could be welcomed by users who want to change their username or have had changes in their circumstances. However, Google has emphasized that this new feature is gradually being made available to all users, so it may not be accessible to everyone yet.
The new system allows both the old and new email addresses to coexist, ensuring that emails sent to the current Gmail address are automatically forwarded to the new one. Google assures users that none of their account data will be impacted, and all photos, messages, and emails associated with the original address will remain unchanged.
To determine if you are eligible to switch to a new Gmail address without losing any emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info at the top-left corner.
– Select Email, then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username that you wish to use, ensuring it is unique.
– Click on Change email and confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Once done, your new Gmail address will become your primary account email while the old address will be retained as an alternate email.
