Yvette Cooper Urges Inclusion of Lebanon in Ceasefire Deal

Published:

Yvette Cooper expresses deep worry over the increased Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon and emphasizes the urgent need to include Lebanon in a ceasefire agreement in the region. The Foreign Secretary criticized Israel for its ongoing bombardment of Lebanon, stating it was the wrong approach as cracks appeared in the ceasefire. After Donald Trump announced the agreement, confusion arose regarding the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, with varying claims on whether it was covered by the ceasefire deal.

Israel conducted numerous attacks on Lebanon, prompting Iran to threaten ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Amidst the escalating situation, Cooper stressed the importance of ending hostilities in Lebanon for regional security. She condemned Israel’s actions and called for free and unimpeded shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to prevent tolls being imposed by Iran.

World leaders, including Keir Starmer, demanded an end to Israel’s assault on Lebanon and urged for a permanent US-Iran ceasefire. French President Emmanuel Macron strongly denounced Israel’s indiscriminate strikes in Lebanon. US Vice President JD Vance clarified that Lebanon was not part of the ceasefire agreement due to a misunderstanding, while Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif confirmed an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon, following mediation efforts.

The ceasefire deal between Trump and Iran was struck at the last minute, averting further escalation. The agreement aimed to reopen the crucial shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz. The international community continues to push for a lasting resolution to the conflict through diplomatic efforts and negotiations.
