“London Fire Incident Under Counter-Terror Inquiry”

Published:

Counter-terror authorities are spearheading an inquiry into a fire incident in London that occurred in Hendon. Metropolitan Police received a call after 10.30pm on Friday, alerting them to the situation. The London Fire Brigade also responded to the scene.

According to police reports, a man was observed approaching a line of shops carrying a plastic bag containing three bottles filled with fluid. He proceeded to place the bag next to the building and ignite the items inside. Fortunately, the bottles did not fully ignite, resulting in minor damage to the shopfront with no reported injuries. The individual then fled the location.

The investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism Policing London, with assistance from officers in the North West Command Area. However, authorities have clarified that the incident is not being treated as a terrorist act. The Metropolitan Police stated that they are keeping an open mind regarding the motive behind the attack, and no arrests have been made thus far.

Commander Helen Flanagan from Counter Terrorism Policing London mentioned that while the recent arson is not currently linked to previous incidents in the North West London area or last month’s arson in Golders Green, the similarities in each attack have led Counter Terrorism officers to take charge of the investigation. Flanagan urged anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward to aid in the investigation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, responsible for policing in the area, acknowledged the community’s concerns following the incidents. He assured that local officers are collaborating closely with Counter Terrorism Policing to support the ongoing investigation. Increased police presence can be expected in the area, including armed patrols and the deployment of officers trained to identify potential criminal activities.
